Toledo Public Schools officials launch levy campaign

May 14, 2012: Toledo Public Schools officials are asking the
public to rally behind a November property tax levy which
would raise an estimated $18.5 million annually for district
operations. The 6.9 mill levy would be permanent. District
officials emphasized TPS has not received any new funding
since 2001.

Community unites in Prayer to stop deportation of Father of Four
Detroit, May 10, 2012:
Father
Leo Reilly
of St. Anne’s Church and Pastor John Cummings of
Southwest Detroit Community Lutheran Church led dozens of local
residents in prayer to prevent the deportation of Gustavo
Vargas, a father of four US-citizen children, ideal citizen,
and business man.

The Women of Color
Foundation and American Greetings Corporation have announced the
launch of a new, women’s quarterly Speaker’s Series. The series
is co-sponsored by Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve
University, Cleveland State University, and WEWS-TV NewsChannel
5, and is one of several events taking place as part of the
Women of Color Foundation’s 10th Anniversary celebration.

for Kids

14, 2012: Give your kids a fun and educational reason to get out
of the house this summer with College for Kids classes at Lorain
County Community College. The first summer classes begin Monday,
June 18, 2012. With more than 30 courses available for children
in grades prekindergarten through high school, there’s something
available for every age and interest.


4-year-old preschool students celebrated their
last day of school on May 10, 2012 organized by their families
at the Toledo Zoo Preschool Program. In the photograph is the
class with their teachers Lori Wittler and Jessica Ziemke, who
gave a gift to each of the twelve students—a green frog and case
to store objects found by them in a summer scavenger hunt.
